Role in pathogenesis
TRAPS cells exhibit elevated baseline mitochondrial reactive oxygen species. These ROS enhance NLRP3 inflammasome activation and drive IL-1β and other pro-inflammatory cytokine production. Antioxidants can reduce inflammatory output in vitro, suggesting ROS as a potential therapeutic target.
