Role in pathogenesis

MAPK phosphorylation is enhanced in TRAPS patient cells upon LPS stimulation. Mitochondrial ROS drive increased MAPK activation, which in turn promotes pro-inflammatory cytokine production. This represents a TNF-independent mechanism of inflammation.
