Evidence summary
Corticosteroids can abort acute TRAPS attacks and were historically the mainstay of treatment. However, they do not prevent future attacks, cannot prevent AA amyloidosis, and carry cumulative toxicity with chronic use. Dose escalation is common. Now reserved for acute flare bridging while initiating IL-1 blockade.
