Role in pathogenesis
Caspase-1 is recruited and activated by ASC within the pyrin inflammasome. Cleaves pro-IL-1beta and pro-IL-18 into mature forms. Also cleaves gasdermin D to trigger pyroptosis. Constitutively activated in FMF knock-in mouse macrophages.
